Sibling newborn photo, studio newborn session, natural light photographer, tri cities wa newborn photographer

You might be wondering whether or not you want to join in for your baby’s newborn session. You just birthed a whole human, and momma that is HARD work. I know you are tired, and don’t feel your best, but let me tell you from personal experience, you will never regret being in your newborn photos with your brand new baby. I remember taking my daughter’s newborn pictures at just FIVE days post emergency C-Section (which I do not recommend, but it was Christmas time and the photographer was going to closed for a few weeks). I could barely move because I was so sore, and I had an allergic reaction right before the session so my lip was very swollen. I did not feel beautiful, I almost gave up on taking pictures, and just had my son take pictures with her. But I did it anyway. And let me tell you, my daughter LOVES to look a those photos, and honestly, so do I. I unfortunately struggled with severe post partum depression with my daughter, and that time feels like a blur. I am so incredibly grateful that I have those photos to look back on.

While I do offer a session that includes the newborn only, I love including family and siblings in your session. Incorporating parents and siblings into the session creates timeless images that tell a complete story of your growing family.

Your First Family Portrait

One of the most meaningful images I capture is your first family portrait. These early days are a whirlwind of emotions, and life moves fast. Having a professional photo of your new family records a moment in time that you’ll cherish forever. It’s a reminder of how small your baby once was and how your family came together in those first few weeks.

The Bond Between Siblings

For older siblings, welcoming a new baby is a major milestone. Including them in the session not only creates beautiful memories but also helps them feel important in this new chapter. I love capturing these moments that highlight the precious bond forming between them. Whether it’s a gentle kiss on the baby’s head, a tiny hand wrapped around their new sibling’s fingers, or an excited hug. Over the years, these photos will serve as a reminder of where their relationship began.

Capturing Mom and Baby

There is something incredibly special about a mother holding her newborn. These moments are often missed in the everyday blur of feedings and diaper changes. You did the work momma, let me capture the beauty and love between you and your baby. It’s beautiful and one of a kind.

Daddy’s Hands

Dad holding baby is a classic and powerful image. The contrast between a father’s hands and the tiny new life he holds is a beautiful representation of protection, strength, and love. Whether it’s the way he cradles the baby in his arms, gently cups a tiny head, or little fingers wrapped around his own, these moments are priceless. I strive to document them in a way that feels natural and meaningful.

Details That Matter

A few of the most cherished images are the ones that focus on the little details—baby’s hand grasping a parent’s finger, tiny feet resting in mom or dad’s hands, or the way they fit perfectly in your arms. These small details change so quickly, and I love freezing them in time so you can hold onto the memory long after your baby has grown.

Welcome! I am so happy you found me and I am looking forward to your newborn photo session. Once you have booked I will send over your questionnaire and a Session Prep Guide that I have personally designed for my clients.

But you might be wondering what to expect during your session so I decided to write this blog to give you an idea of what to anticipate.

Upon arrival at my in-home studio, you’ll be greeted with a warm and cozy environment designed specifically for your baby’s comfort. The studio is kept at an ideal temperature to ensure your little one stays calm and content, especially during those adorable naked poses.

To set the stage for a smooth session, I kindly ask that your baby is fed either on arrival or within the last 15-20 minutes. A full tummy usually means a happy, sleepy baby, which helps us transition through the session with ease.

Step 1: Wrapped Posing

I typically start with wrapped posing. Wrapping helps soothe babies and keeps them feeling secure, which often encourages them to drift into a peaceful sleep. I have a variety of soft, high-quality wraps in different colors and textures for you to choose from. These initial wrapped poses also allow us to capture some sweet, swaddled moments while ensuring your baby feels safe and snug.

Step 2: Parent and Sibling Shots

If you’d like, we can include some special parent and sibling portraits. These photos are often the most cherished, capturing the connection and love shared between family members.

Step 2.1: Details of Toes, Fingers, and Hands

Some of the most precious moments are found in the tiny details. I love capturing close-up shots of your baby’s delicate toes, curled fingers, and the tender touch of a parent’s hands resting gently on their little one. These detailed images add an intimate and artistic touch to your gallery.

Step 3: Prop Selection

During your pre-session questionnaire and once you arrive at the studio, you’ll have the opportunity to select from a variety of props and backdrops. From cozy baskets to elegant wooden crates and delicate flokati rugs, each prop is carefully chosen to create timeless and beautiful images.

Step 4: Transition to Naked Poses

Once your baby is settled and sleepy, we’ll move into the classic naked poses (these babies are all covered for privacy, and naked photos are only ever shared in personal galleries, but these give a sample of the possibilities on the table for posing). This is where the studio’s warm temperature really shines. Each pose is carefully guided to ensure your baby remains comfortable and safe at all times.

Step 5: Final Touches and Wrap-Up

Before we wrap up the session, I may add a few final touches with delicate headbands, hats, or small props to complete the setup. Every detail is thoughtfully considered to ensure your gallery is filled with images you’ll treasure forever.

Thank you for trusting me to capture these fleeting moments of your baby’s earliest days. I can’t wait to deliver a beautiful gallery of memories that will last a lifetime.

About Tawny

Tawny is an award winning newborn and baby photographer based in Tri-Cities, WA, with a passion for capturing the precious first moments of life. With a background as an ER nurse specializing in caring for babies and hands-on mentoring from experienced photographers, Tawny brings a unique blend of skill and care to my sessions. Using natural light, simple setups, and beautiful photography to create heartfelt images of your baby’s earliest moments, she combines expertise and creativity to deliver stunning, safe, and timeless portraits.

Welcome to Tawny Rochelle Photography! Over the last year, I have worked incredibly hard to put together an in-home studio. While small, I have set my spare room up to house everything I need for all your newborn, child, and small family photo sessions.

You will be greeted with bright, natural light diffused nicely throughout the room. I also use an Einstein flash with a 64″ and 86″ PLM. For newborn sessions, the studio will be very toasty. Since newborns will be in just a diaper and light wraps, I heat up the studio and have space heaters to keep the newborn comfortable. Family and sibling photos will be done first, so we don’t have to worry about being too warm or glistening in your photos. After the family portion, you will be able to sit an relax.

I have also spent the last 5-6 years collecting props, wraps, backdrops, etc. and provide everything you could need for your newborn or child session. [The only thing you need to bring is baby and however you are chosing to nourish your baby]. Along with the props pictured below, I have fillers, furs, chunky blankets, and large Flokatis. When you book your session, you will be given a questionnaire that asks your preferences for colors, wraps, props, tie backs, hats, and bonnets.

As for bum up and belly poses, those will be done on my newborn posing table.

I hope this helps answer any questions you might have regarding what I provide and what to expect for your newborn or child session.
